Nonlinear Approximation and Compressed Sensing

Very large volumes of data arise in scientific experiments of cell biology, particle physics, and medical imaging. Nonlinear approximation, dimension reduction und compressed sensing are methods for the development of sparse representations and are main topics of the conference. They are intertwined with other topics, such as wavelet analysis, which appears as an intermediate step towards finding sparse nonlinear approximations in anisotropic smoothness spaces, and kernel approximation, which is at the mathematical foundation of compressed sensing.
